Prayer at Freshbrook

Upcoming Week of Prayer: see below for details.

Sunday AM: 10-10.20am. We meet in the lounge at 10am for around 20 minutes prior to the morning service starting to pray for all those participating in our service; the speaker, service leader, musicians and AV team. We pray too for our those leading our young people’s groups and creche, for welcome team and those serving refreshments. We pray that God will minister to them and through them, that we all might encounter the living God, by the saving grace of His Son Jesus, through the presence of His Holy Spirit.

Sunday PM: 6.30-7.45pm. We meet each Sunday evening in person for a time of prayer and praise. We will also give time to reflect in God’s word through the Bible. These meetings are more informal than our 10.30 service and offer opportunities to share and pray with each other, as well as for the wider issues we face in our world.

Each first Sunday of the month we share communion together. On the second Sunday, our focus is praying for our UK based Mission partners.

Through the Autumn term starting on September 14th, we will be running Youth Alpha alongside our Sunday Evening Service so there will be a separate programme offered to those young people aged 10-18. Whilst we are running this, we will aim to finish both services around 19.45. The extra 15 minutes makes all the difference.

Tuesday: 7.30-8.30pm. On the 3rd Tuesday of each month, we meet to pray for our Overseas Mission Partners.

Prior to each meeting, contact is made by email to find out the latest praise and prayer items from each of our overseas missionaries.  This has been a tremendous encouragement to every one of them without exception, to know that 24 or so of us are faithfully remembering them before the Lord each month.  This accords with 1 Thessalonians 5:11  – ‘Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as in fact you are doing.”

The meeting is led by a couple in the church who have served as missionaries overseas and have a deep understanding and passion for the importance of prayer support for those serving far from home.

Wednesday: 7-8am. The Wednesday Morning Prayer meeting is the longest running prayer meeting in Freshbrook Church. We meet every Wednesday morning for prayers between 7 and 8 am, and this has been going on since well before 1995. Nowadays, we meet on Zoom. The only day of the year we don’t meet is the Wednesday between Christmas and New Year. We have a short devotional to begin with, followed by wide ranging prayers. There’s a real sense of the privilege of meeting God and of purpose during these mornings. This is probably why this is the most consistent and long running prayer meeting throughout all these years. All who worship with us are most welcome to join us in these mornings. Zoom details can be obtained via the church office.

Thursday: 8-9pm We meet every other Thursday for the Men’s prayer meeting on Zoom. We pray for the church, its ministries and our community, for the UK and Channel Islands and for our Missions partners overseas.

As well as praying for matters far and wide, it’s important that when we meet as a group of men, we are able to care for one another and pray over personal concerns – so, to this end, space is made available in our meetings.

In addition, from time to time, we hear someone’s testimony to encourage us also, in our walk with the Lord!

Weeks of Prayer: As a church we hold a Week of Prayer twice a year, once in January as the year begins and again in the summer before the school holidays. Over the course of the week, we pray for the church, its leadership, oversight, ministries, administration, congregation, meetings and our Mission partners. Our next week of prayer is scheduled for Monday 6th  – Sunday 12th July 2026. There are many different ways you can join in prayer with us. There are zoom meetings in the morning, in person meetings in the evening and prayer walks on some lunchtimes. See the schedule below.

Midday Prayer Walks

We plan to go further afield this time, just so that our horizon does not become myopic! We’ll head toward the edges of territory that God has placed the church in. We’ll go by car (only takes a few minutes) and then we’ll do our prayer walk.

Family and Young People Prayers

We are trying something new to encourage families and young people to pray together! We have a couple of events on Fri, 10/Jul:

  • Families’ prayer activity time from 6pm. Come and stay as long as you want!
  • Young people interactive prayer zone in the youth lounge between 7:30 pm – 10 pm. Again, come and stay as long as you want!
