Oh So Close!

Congratulations to the Freshbrook cricket team for nearly bringing back the trophy.

The team, from top left clockwise, of Steve Cox, Courtney Merchant, Tim Rabbitt, Finlay MacNaughton, Roy MacNaughton and Alex Smith, were runners up in the United Churches 6 a side cricket competition.

Eight teams competed in this prestigious sporting event on a beautiful May bank holiday Monday: Freshbrook, Christ the Servant, Faringdon Baptist, The Stowe Church, Stratton Methodist, South Marston CE School, Christchurch, St. Mary’s Ashbury.

Having won 3 & lost 1 of our matches meant we finished tied 2nd with two other teams. However, based on number of wickets taken, we qualified for the final. We lost the final against South Marston CE School who went the day unbeaten.

Special mention goes to Finlay & Tim who bowled particularly well throughout the day. Everyone in the team played their part in a fantastic achievement finishing 2nd! Unfortunately the final was slightly clouded by Courtenay snapping his Achilles while trying to take a quick run while batting. Had this not happened we would have doubtless won. Whoever said we are sore loosers! Only kidding – congratulations to South Marston!

It was a great day enjoyed by all.
